Start your day with a leisurely 7:30am pick-up from your hotel in Auckland's CBD. Head south over the Bombay Hills, following alongside the majestical Waikato River, New Zealand's longest, travelling through some of the North Island's most beautiful rural countryside.
On the journey to the first attraction, you'll witness a variety of rural lifestyles, from small farm blocks to expansive hill country stations, and through small town New Zealand. As the rolling farmland transitions into lush green pastures and native forests, you'll begin to see the distinctive craggy outcrops of limestone formations that are synonymous with the Waitomo area.
Upon arriving at the Waitomo Ruakuri Cave, you'll step out of the van into a serene environment, breathing in the crisp, clean air. Be sure to dress warmly and prepare for an unforgettable adventure. Unlike other cave tours, the Waitomo Ruakuri Cave offer a mesmerizing blend of subterranean wonders, including enchanting glowworms that will leave you in awe of nature's splendour. Your tour begins with a descent through a spectacular, man-made spiral entrance. On a guided tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set, you'll see iconic scenery from 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' films and uncover the secrets behind the creation of Middle-earth. The deep gullies and gnarly trees are a sight to behold, with stunning views of the Kaimai Ranges. As you explore meticulously crafted sets, including Hobbit Holes, the Mill, and the Green Dragon Inn, you can savor a specially brewed drink fit for a Baggins. It's an experience that makes you feel like transforming into a hobbit.
